Duane Edward Sanchez
Born in the chaos of a rushing ambulance on the eastern shore of Virginia, a life was formed in the process of unique timing. Quite often school notepads took Duane away from the everyday lesson plans and school activities. Filling the borders with drawings and silly cartoon stick figures, Duane started to cultivate a love and eye for visual arts that has been fostered by constant experimentation and drive. Having many interest throughout life made it difficult for Duane to decide what kind of artist he was to become. Bashful beginnings towards drawing and a love for filming skateboard videos led Duane towards studying film at Towson University.
Duane has been fortunate to film theatre companies and local musicians throughout the Baltimore area over the past ten years. Duane’s creative influences come from collaborating within the incubator of Baltimore's community of Musicians, Thespians, and visual Artists. The challenge of painting for Duane has always been about how long it could be enjoyable as a hobby. Switching mediums has always kept art fresh and mentally refreshing. In some cases his media even intertwines. Duane’s first piece, "You are Here" was painted on a wall panel taken from the set of one of his short films.
Having picked up painting in 2010, Duane Sanchez considers his paintings to be those of a self-taught painter. His work can be seen as slightly off-kilter, meshing style and content with bold shapes and abstract characters. Like most Cubist art, Duane focuses on exploring the relationship between colors and depth using dots or squares. |
